So the Christmas presents are all opened and we all proceed to a nice boozy lunch… without the grandkids who prefer to stay at home and enjoy all their gifts. Also since our lunch extends to about three and a half hours they quite rightly point out that they would get bored. So what is Christmas without turkey? Not that turkey is very tasty… in fact it is just the opposite but as I said… what is Christmas without turkey? Unfortunately in Kolkata we haven’t found anywhere you can get a really proper lunch… that means turkey, honey roast ham, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and the most important good gravy!!! Over the years we have visited pretty much all the 5 star hotels but have ultimately decided that the Taj poolside is the best mainly for the atmosphere, the unlimited bubbly and the service. Unfortunately the food is a little underwhelming… this year probably more than most… the turkey was dry, the chicken tikkas were uncooked in the middle, the teppanyaki veggies tasted extremely odd but the bistro gravy granules that I always bring from Manchester came to the rescue and we had chips and gravy and we felt as though we were in heaven!!! The waiters also cottoned on pretty fast… after refilling our glasses a couple of times they just left a bottle at our table in an ice bucket… and that is why we keep returning to the Taj!!! Despite the slight failings in the food a good time was had by all and thus ended another Christmas and I shall start planning everything again in 6 months time!!!

Enjoying our Christmas lunch!!!
