We reached Mykonos after a rather harrowing ferry journey mainly due to the fact that I can’t travel light… well no let me rephrase that… I don’t like to load up a suitcase too heavily so I prefer to carry 2 smaller suitcases rather than one huge one. Which is fine when there are porters around to assist you but very stressful when you have to climb steps onto the ferry amongst hundreds of other passengers. However … we managed ( would you expect anything less?) and found our seats. We have worked out a strategy for our next ferry journey so let’s see if it works!!! So we reached Mykonos and it is beautiful…. Clear skies, blue blue sea but windy as hell!!! I had to buy a warm jacket to counter the cold. The town is lovely and quaint with cobblestones and narrow lanes almost like a maze. On the first day Monisha and I wandered round the town for nearly 3 hours despite the slight drizzle and at one point we realised we were just going round in circles… how much we laughed!!! We passed one restaurant which we thought we would come back to for dinner but we just couldn’t find it so we had to change plans.

Little Venice
Windmills

The next day was my big day…. My 66th Birthday !!! I was as excited as a kid when I woke up to forty messages and numerous phone calls and my besties pampered me royally. We spent a lazy morning and afternoon by the swimming pool drinking Prosecco and then went on a tour of the island. We visited a little town called Ana Mera and saw a beautiful church with lovely inlaid work. We also saw the famous Mykonos Windmills and took the obligatory photos with them. Then we drove round the island visiting various beaches and went for dinner to Budha Bar which was lovely especially after they lent us shawls and put on the large heaters next to the table. We were all starving as we had been on liquid diets since breakfast so the lovely Asian food and cocktails went down very smoothly.

Chilling!!!
Cutting a pice of bread… they couldn’t find cake!!!
Beautiful ceiling
Buddha Bar

The next day we all bought some lovely Greek linen shirts and wandered around the shops and then went to Paradise Beach Club where we spent the afternoon. We all felt a little out of place amongst the young scantily clad girls but still had fun just sitting on the beach watching the world go by. From there we went to a fantastic place which is a beach bar/ restaurant and night club on the side of a hill overlooking the sea. We watched the beautiful sunset and saw the colours change from yellow to pink to blue… it was a sight to behold. This was a real happening place with hundreds of people enjoying their drinks and dancing. One felt young here!!!
