LUNCHING AND LISTENING!!

Have you ever gone to a nice trendy restaurant at lunchtime and just sat on your own shamelessly eavesdropping on conversations around you? If not.. please try it… it is fascinating!!! There will always be a group of fashionable ladies having their kitty parties. Now as soon as they all meet everyone gives each other the mandatory air kiss and comments on how nice each other are looking whether they mean it or not. Then there are always one or two poor hapless souls who are discussed in minute detail…. How they have definitely had some Botox or fillers or tightening or any such treatments done, how much weight they have put on… at least 100g… what they are wearing… didn’t they wear that same outfit 6 months ago and finally… is that a real Hermès or is it a knock off??? So then they start looking at the menus… someone is vegetarian, someone doesn’t want carbs, someone is vegan, someone is gluten free…. The list is endless!!! And then we get to the most important topic… what diet is everyone following and there is a rapid exchange of delicious recipes which we all know no one is going to even attempt to make!!! Ok so all this takes up about an hour and a half and then they move onto our Bollywood film stars. I have been told by a very ‘ reliable source’ that so and so is going around with this person … a doctor friend who deals with all the celebrities told her that this actress just had a nose job, a boob job, an anything job but it was absolutely confidential so please don’t tell anyone. I mean does anyone really care and even if you do how does it affect you… you don’t know them… they don’t know you so why all this great excitement??? 

Then of course one thing that can’t be forgotten is the noise that ten ladies can make… they forget that they are in a public space with other diners around them. I have seen instances of other customers getting up and moving to tables further away from this racket all shaking their heads and muttering under their breaths. It is hilarious!!

Regardless of all this, Mea Culpa, I must admit that I am a member of the ‘ladies who like to lunch’ group and meet a few friends quite regularly. We sit and have a leisurely lunch and most important is we all laugh and chat together. (Just quietly though!) You only  have to find some friends you are comfortable with and your day is made… good food and good company… what more can you ask for?
