Yes….I am referring to the first film, not the second part. I guess I must have been pretty much the last person in the world who hadn’t seen this film and considering the fact that I normally see all films in the first week this was extremely strange! In fact I got a lot of flack from many friends who were very affronted that I had not written a review on this “mega” film. I don’t know why but it never appealed to me right from the beginning…be it the running time of the film or the trailers that I had seen which were all dark and gruesome or maybe it was just the fact that I was on a diet and sitting in a movie hall for 4 hours with no popcorn was just not enticing me. Anyway for a change I listened to reviews from other people. Some absolutely hated the film and yet others loved it so much they watched it multiple times especially when it was screened on Netflix. I finally succumbed once Dhurandhar The Revenge was released. I wanted to go and see this is the hall with Vinay so realised that I had to watch the first part to understand and enjoy (I wasn’t sure about this yet) the latest release. My children were also urging me to see the film and my son suggested I watch it in our home theatre but I thought that would be too much expectation so one late afternoon when I had nothing to do I took the plunge! I thought I would fast forward half the film and skip the songs etc but can you imagine… I just sat and watched it right through. Yes, there was a lot of fighting and yes some of the scenes were gruesome and pretty brutal but I was hooked. When Vinay joined me half way through the film I did, rather half heartedly, offer to complete the balance at a later time but he was happy to re watch it so I saw it through to the end. The acting by Ranveer Singh was superb but Akshay Khanna was a revelation. Everyone played their parts to perfection and the music was haunting. Yes, I still feel the film could have been slightly shorter… it would have not lost its appeal but there was not a moment where I was bored or wanted to switch channels or play a puzzle on my phone. It was worth it and whilst I am cursing myself for not going earlier I am happy that I did finally see it.
I am now looking forward to going to see ‘Dhurandhar The Revenge’ in the hall with my husband and a massive tub of popcorn…..no I am still on my diet but everyone is allowed a cheat day and some things are worth cheating for!!! I shall give you an update shortly!!!
